One two-month journey circling the Australian Coast was terminated following the death of an elderly female passenger who was abandoned by the vessel on a isolated tropical isle.

The passenger had been hiking on the tropical location with other travelers from the vessel, but broke off from the excursion for a rest. The vessel departed without her and went back after some time after the crew became aware the woman was unaccounted for.

An extensive hunt found her person the next day.

Authorities are examining the event, alongside investigators and the medical examiner.

The CEO of the voyage organizer stated that travelers and personnel on the Coral Adventurer were notified that the rest of the journey had been cancelled due to the "sad loss and prior technical problems".

Via official communication, he added that guests would be issued a full refund, and said the organization was working "to arrange the return journeys of the passengers via specially arranged planes".

Regulatory bodies also published an updated statement, and said they had "delivered a notice to the Master" prohibiting any new passengers from entering the ship.

The official said that they would inspect the vessel in the port city upon its coming back.

Chronology of Events

The ship first departed the Australian port on the 24th of October, and was only 48 hours into the journey at the moment of the 80-year-old's death. The tropical location was the opening port on the voyage.

"We understand from the police that it was a exceptionally warm period, and mum became unwell on the uphill trek," she explained.

"She was asked her to go back, without accompaniment. Then the boat sailed away, apparently without doing a headcount.

"During some point in that chain of events, or not long after, she succumbed, alone."

Company Reaction

Via official communication, the Chief Executive confirmed that the company was "working closely with officials to assist their inquiry".

He mentioned that the firm was "extremely apologetic that this has transpired" and had offered its complete assistance to the loved ones.

The liner serves up to 120 travelers with nearly fifty staff, according to official details. It was purpose-built to reach remote locations of the Australian coast and is equipped with "auxiliary vessels" - compact vessels used to transport travelers on day excursions.

Events such as this are infrequent, and liners have procedures to track which travelers are embarking or leaving, according to travel authorities.

"Going ashore secretly or [back] on the ship simply isn't an choice," an authority commented.

Cruise lines consider these methods with great importance and have "sophisticated systems in place to prevent such events from occurring," the authority further stated.

"This is probably a surprising - and sad - isolated incident."
