It has been 30 years after the first Toy Story film was released, launching the animation giant as a leading animation studio and introducing viewers to iconic figures like the cowboy doll (Tom Hanks) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now famous worldwide.

Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is set to arrive. The initial preview for Toy Story 5 landed recently, offering a brief look into the storyline but leaving fans curious how it will address the conclusion of Toy Story 4.

The Latest Addition: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Spooks the Gang

The preview shows the young girl — who inherited the toy collection when he grew up — receiving a brand new plaything, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She gets her first tablet computer, and she is excited about it.

Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will come to life just like Bonnie's other toys. Still, the toys seem to view it as a danger coming to replace them, which it likely will.

The Cowboy's Comeback: Mysteries from Toy Story 4

An element the trailer doesn't touch on is what the sheriff is returned with his companions in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (the actress), journeying with a fair and assisting prize toys locate loving owners.

Surely, the filmmakers will address the consequences of Toy Story 4 in the film. Witnessing him show up in Bonnie's room without warning is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether Bo Peep will have come back with Woody. And what about the stuntman toy (the star)?

Connections from the Previous Film

Fortunately, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act the cowboy did before setting off for his new life was hand over his sheriff badge to Jessie (Joan Cusack), leaving her as the leader of the toy domain. The clip shows the badge pinned to her shirt.

Hopefully she is remains the driving force among the group.

Toy Story 5 arrives in theaters on June 19, 2026.
